The retreat of the glaciers is not only changing the impressive landscape of the Alps – it is also creating something new: fascinating habitats for plants and animals that settle in these young, untouched areas. One of these special places is the glacier forefield of the Vadret da Porchabella in Parc Ela. Here you can experience the quiet change of nature up close. Due to its unique dynamism and ecological importance, the area was named "Water of the Year 2025" by Aqua Viva – the Swiss water protection organisation.

Learn more about what makes this area so special on the guided 2-day hike. On the first day, you will climb to the glacier forefield and then on to the Kesch Hut SAC, where you will spend the night. The next day, the guide will take you through the exciting glacier forefield and past picturesque mountain lakes.

Much has been written and researched about glaciers – from their formation to their disappearance. But nothing replaces the direct experience of the dramatic changes on the ground. On this excursion we visit an impressive example of a glacier forefield where the change is visible and noticeable.

Leader: Christian Gloor, Parc Ela Guide and federal. Certified hiking guide
