Vouchers Encounters Between People and Animals

Due to the reintroduction and return of wild animals, conditions in our holiday region of Bergün Filisur have changed. In particular, the rapid increase in the wolf population presents new challenges.It is important that picnic and rest areas are always left clean and free of food waste.
Encountering a wolf
- Encounters with wolves are very unlikely, as wolves are generally shy and avoid humans.
- If you do encounter a wolf, remain calm and make your presence known with a firm voice.
- Slowly move away from the animal.
- Do not approach or attempt to follow the wolf.
- Keep your dog on a short leash.
- Report the incident to the local game warden.
Encountering a Livestock Guardian Dog
- Remain calm and walk slowly.
- Dismount from your bicycle and push it.
- Keep a safe distance from the herd.
- Do not startle sheep, goats or livestock guardian dogs.
- Stay calm and do not shout if the dogs run towards you or block your path. Give them time to assess the situation.
- Avoid direct eye contact, but remain facing the dogs.
- Continue walking slowly only after the dogs have stopped barking and accepted your presence.

If the Livestock Guardian Dogs Do Not Calm Down
- If in doubt, avoid the herd or turn back.
- Increase your distance from the herd.
- If necessary, keep the dogs at a distance using hiking poles by holding them diagonally downwards.
- Never threaten a livestock guardian dog by raising poles or waving them around.
When Walking with a Dog
- Keep your dog on a leash.
- Never attempt to pass through a protected herd with your dog.
- Give the herd a wide berth.
- If in doubt, turn back.
Encountering a Mother Cow or Other Cattle
Please follow these three basic rules:
- Keep your distance.
- Never touch or approach calves.
- Keep dogs on a short leash.
Encounters between wolves and livestock can cause significant unrest within a herd. As a result, the behaviour of cattle during an encounter cannot always be predicted. Therefore, the following also applies:If in doubt, turn back.
