Description
After a detour to Sertig Dörfli, a Walser settlement from the 14th century, we set off towards the Romans, to the sunny terrace of Stugl, high above the Albula valley. The path leads into the wild Ducan valley, with its wide debris fans at the foot of the Hoch, Chlei, and Gletscher Ducan peaks. Around 240 million years ago, in the Middle Triassic, a roughly 120 m thick sequence of limestone and marl was deposited in a tropical shallow sea. Unique finds of dinosaurs and fish in this Prosanto formation repeatedly cause worldwide sensation. The Swiss geologist Heinz Furrer has been a driving force behind this for years. At Ducanfurgga (2664 m), the view sweeps across this primeval landscape. On the descent into Val da Stugl, the green of pioneer vegetation cautiously returns. Overnight stay in Stugl/Stuls: Chesa-sut-Baselgia.
