FiliTour No. 8: Janett House

Description

Wine trade behind curtains

Jakob Janett (1792-1869), fourth-generation homeowner, was a respected confectioner in Trieste. He returned to Filisur wealthy . In addition to his offices as Ammann of Filisur and Landammann in the district of Bergün, he worked as a farmer and wine merchant. He imported wine from the Tyrol, which he stored in the cellar. The wine was tasted in the tasting room on the ground floor, where it was conveniently sucked in from the cellar via a hose.

His wife Carolina Roi (1797-1877), daughter of the Prussian consul in Trieste, created an absolute novelty in the village. She was the first to hang curtains on the parlour windows.

Private exhibition in the hay barn

In the former stable, the current owners have set up a well-documented exhibition of agricultural equipment from times gone by.

In the audio, Viktor Zeller talks about their history and use. The audio file can be found at the back of the pictures.
