Description

Right from the start, it goes onto a more demanding surface. The forest road above Bergün leads beautifully through the woods. For everyone with 'off-road' experience, it is very rideable, but due to stones and roots as well as partially steep terrain, you have to stay focused and brake in a controlled manner.

Back on the Albula, the pedaling remains easy. Due to the current situation of the Brienz landslide, you ride about 5 kilometers on the road and then soon back onto a forest road that winds in switchbacks up the sunny side of the Valbula valley to Lantsch.

The mountain village of Brienz has been known to everyone since 2023 because the steep slopes above the village have moved massively. On the GBT stage, you can see the extent directly in front of you.

From Lantsch/Lenz, the route continues through the Roland Arena, a central training site for elite and youth athletes. The goal, Lenzerheide, is not far away, but we take a beautiful extra loop through the forest.

Geheimtipp

A detour is a must on this stage – to one of Graubünden's landmarks, the Landwasser Viaduct. At Filisur, you leave the cycle path, cross the road and roll straight along the short path into the Landwasser Valley to the famous six-arched bridge of the Rhaetian Railway. The pillars rise 65 meters into the sky, as elegant as impressive. 60 trains of the Albula Railway appear here daily high above and disappear after 136 meters into the 216-meter-long rock tunnel.

Sicherheitshinweis

The Glacier Bike Tour is still under development and is not signposted. You can navigate on site using the Outdooractive app. Assess your own skills and fitness carefully. Riding the various routes is fundamentally at your own risk.

Ausrüstung

With which e-bike should I start the Glacier Bike Tour? Professional biker (and e-MTB double world champion) Nathalie Schneitter presents the perfect bike here in the video: a robust & comfortable full suspension, equipped with wide, grippy tires, powerful brakes & if possible, a dropper seatpost.

Even in midsummer you have to be prepared for everything in the mountains: So what do you pack in the bike bags for such a special undertaking that leads over 3 passes, through both high alpine and Mediterranean landscapes? Bike pro Nathalie Schneitter has already ridden the Glacier Bike Tour and reveals her packing list here.

Directions

Public Transport

The Glacier Bike Tour runs continuously along the Glacier Express with 53 stations – so you can also use the regional trains along the way if needed.

Anreise Information

We recommend traveling to Chur and continuing with the Rhaetian Railway, the UNESCO World Heritage, to the starting point in St. Moritz. From Zermatt back to Chur, there is an hourly train connection.
