Spiertin 13: Die kleine Eiszeit

Here you cross the moraine of the Little Ice Age - and thus the last moraine on the Hüttenweg. During the Little Ice Age, it was cooler and wetter than usual for several centuries and the Porchabella Glacier had grown back to this point. 150 years ago, the Little Ice Age ended and the glacier began to retreat. Under the melting ice, today's glacier forefield has emerged. The young landscape extends from here to the edge of the glacier. The photograph you see was taken around 1900. Do you see how far the glacier flowed to the right?
